COTA Junior Tennis

Clarke-Oconee Tennis Association

COTA Junior Tennis services residents of Athens-Clark, Barrow, Jackson, Madison, Morgan and Oconee Counties.  Our goal is to promote and grow junior tennis in our region.  Programs offered are coordinated in conjunction with USTA Southern Section and consist of Junior Team Tennis, Play Dates, and 8u leagues.  All league play in the 10 and under divisions play according to USTA regulations.  In addition, for Championship Year 2012, we have implemented the use of the GreenBall in the 12u Beginner level.  We take pride in providing our junior players with the best opportunity to learn, play and enjoy the sport of tennis.

The COTA Junior Team Tennis (JTT) League is sponsored by COTA, a Community Tennis Association (CTA) under the guidance of the Georgia Tennis Association (GTA) and USTA Southern.  To best service our region, we offer two types of JTT programs, advancing and non-advancing leagues.  Our advancing leagues provide players and teams alike the opportunity to progress to the Georgia State Championship and beyond.  These programs follow the age-eligibility and skill rules and regulations set forth by USTA National, USTA Southern and USTA Georgia.  Our non-advancing leagues allow us to grow tennis and bring in new players to the sport and provide match play experience preparing juniors to progress into advancing leagues and tournaments.

10 and under tennis has been a part of COTA Junior Tennis since Championship Year 2009, which began in the fall of 2008.  We ended the year with one of our 10u teams winning the Georgia State Championship.  In addition, two of our teams placed 2nd in their divisions, beginner and intermediate, in the first Georgia 8u Regional Championship.  Each year, COTA continues to advance 10u teams, as well as others, to the Georgia State Championship.  By 2011, our Athens area facilities had the blended lines for 60ft courtplay.  Championship Year 2012 showed growth in the 10u division with a new area league starting in Braselton, servicing Barrow and Jackson County communities.  For more information on USTA 10 and under tennis format.

COTA Junior Tennis works closely with our area tennis pros to create our junior programs.  USTA Junior Tennis is constantly evolving, especially with the advent of the 10 and under format of play.  It is because of our strong relationship and support of our local tennis pros we are able to provide successful leagues and programs.  We also attribute our success to our team captains.  Their strong communication between parents, tennis pros and COTA allow our players to truly benefit from an organized, structured league.  If you would like more information on growing tennis is your area, please contact Lisa Bowen, COTA Junior Tennis Coordinator, jtt@cotatennis.net, 706-380-2348.

Currently, COTA’s JTT “Team” consists of Courtney Meadows and Lisa Bowen.  Both work closely together to coordinate programs.  As Program Manager, Courtney manages league play and addresses questions and concerns regarding league rules and regulations.  As Junior League Coordinator, Lisa is responsible for all TennisLink issues, 8u League play, events, adherence to USTA rules and regulations, growth, and reporting to the Board of Directors on a monthly basis.
