COTA JTT Volunteer Opportunities
 
Scorekeeper
Description:
The scorekeeper will oversee score reporting, follow team standings, and determine division winners at the end of each season. Strong organizational and communicational skills and Internet access is required for the success of this position.
Responsibilities:
  • Ensure accurate online score reporting through TennisLink.
  • Make sure parent captains enter scores by deadline.
  • Troubleshoot any errors.
Work with parent captains, pros and league coordinator.
Hours: 1-2 hours per week during season.
 
Season Coordinator
Description:
The season coordinator will oversee the season of play and resolve issues pertaining to the rules and regulations. This individual will be the main point of contact for parent captains and will be the liaison to the league coordinator. Strong organization, communication and problem resolution skills are required for the success. It will also require the individual to be accessible by phone on match day.   
Responsibilities:
  • Regulation of season rules.
  • Ensure parent and player understanding of rules, regulations and behavior.
  • Determine rainouts and rainout schedule.
  • Attend captain’s meeting, one per season.
  • Work with league coordinator in determining any changes to league rules and regulations.
Work with parent captains, players, pros, scorekeeper and league coordinator.
Hours: approximately 0-5 hours/week during season.
 
Web Designer (Juniors section only)
Description:
The web designer will gather and organize junior tennis information in the junior section and calendar of the COTA website. This position will work closely with the web master. The success of this position will rely heavily on strong Internet searching skills. No web programming skills are necessary.
Responsibilities:
  • Research schedules for Georgia junior tournaments both USTA and non-USTA, local tennis camp programs, UGA collegiate tennis schedule and pro-exhibition matches throughout the Southeast. 
  • Create Resource Page for parents and players new to the sport.
Work with web master and league coordinator.
Hours: 5-10 hours/month
Court Supervisors
Beginner and Intermediate level divisions require court supervisors to assist parents and players on match day. This individual must be familiar with league rules and regulations.
Responsibilities:
  • Ensure courts are ready for play.
  • Coordinate line-up exchanged for parent captains.
  • Format of play is reviewed with players before match play.
  • Players use on court scorekeepers.
  • Resolve any on issues during match play.
  • Ensure proper behavior both on and off court.
Work with parent captains, parents, facility organizers and league coordinator.
 Hours: 1-2 ½ hours on match day. Schedule available for rotation.
QuickStart “Intro to League Tennis” Instructors
Description:
“Intro to League Tennis” is a six-week program for ages 6-8. A strong commitment level is required for this position, as Instructors will be required to complete each program. Individuals must attend USTA QuickStart workshop and/or USTA Recreational Coaches workshop and must be approved by league coordinator and league president. Background check may be required.
Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for league’s QuickStart equipment to include net, rackets and balls.
  • Create enthusiasm for tennis with young children.
  • Instruct and teach the basics of tennis strokes-forehand, backhand, volley and serve following outline procedure.
  • Provide a fun environment.
  • Report scores to scorekeeper.
Work with players, their parents, league coordinator, and scorekeeper.
Hours: 1-2 hours/week during program.
QuickStart Coordinator
Description:
The QuickStart Coordinator will work directly with the league coordinator to develop QuickStart tennis and league play in the COTA service area. This individual must be familiar and up to date with the QuickStart format.
Responsibilities:
  • Keep up to date with the developments of USTA’s QuickStart format and younger-aged tennis skills and abilities.
  • Research and find resources for growing QuickStart tennis outside of Athens-Clarke and Oconee counties.
  • Coordinate, schedule and run QuickStart workshops.
  • Assist league coordinator in developing programs to reach younger players.
  • Oversee QuickStart programs and recommend changes necessary for player development.
Work with league coordinator, various instructors in the surrounding area and all those involved in junior tennis.
Hours: approximately 5-10 hours/week
